Imagine my excitement when I received a wedding enquiry from Hawaii 7,083 miles away from Garstang! Immediately I was thinking about planning the flights and accommodation and wondering how many days to allocate to the photoshoot. I then re-read the email and it said, “Renewing our vows with family from Fleetwood, New Jersey, San Diego, Switzerland and the Philippines. We are traveling from Hawaii July 20-Aug 5th. 50 guests total. Plan on a lot of dancing and games for the group!” Wow I thought what a long way to come for a wedding vows renewal ceremony!
With the UK being 10 hours ahead of Hawaii Kay was finding it very difficult to plan her wedding. (I say wedding because there was no discernible difference in the end between a wedding and wedding vows renewal ceremony!) I offered to help Kay and ended up basically doing the job of a wedding planner recommending wedding professionals that I was confident would do a great job for her. With just 5 months to plan Kay was able to book DJ Gary Mills Millington (Brother from another Mother) and Emily Mawson Cakes. A lovely surprise addition to the wedding team was the close up and table magician Darren Robinson he’d been booked by Andy’s Sister as a wedding gift.
The wedding venue Kay had chosen for her special day was the Grade I Listed Ashton Hall at Lancaster Golf Club because she wanted an English Castle and with its crenellated parapets and Gothic style it certainly looks like one!
Due to the large time difference and physical distance away from the UK we found the best way to talk to plan the wedding was to FaceTime each other which was a lot of fun. I always like to meet my wedding couples before the wedding but because of our family holiday this wasn’t possible so the first time we met was in Kay’s Hotel. It was great to finally meet in person but because of all the FaceTime calls we felt that we already knew each other pretty well. This certainly helped me capture completely relaxed and fun photographs on the day.
Kay had mentioned in her initial email that she loved dancing and that it would be a big part of her wedding party. She even brought her dance instructor with her all the way from Hawaii! Kay and Andy’s first dance was more like a Strictly Come Dancing show dance it was incredible! Afterwards Kay took to the dance floor with her dance instructor and wedding guests were wowed by some fantastically choreographed dance routines. Next it was the turn of the wedding guests who danced until the coach came to take them back to their hotel.
Kay and Andy had an absolutely fantastic day as you can see in this small selection of images. We’ve stayed in touch as I do with most of my Brides and just today Kay messaged me to say that she was looking through all the images reliving her special day! :-)
